The Compass Rose Chipbreaker Screw

Stanley chipbreaker screws are often missing, easily damaged, and expensive to buy used. Stanley also used a proprietary thread pitch, so off-the-shelf screws won’t fit Stanley planes.

Compass Rose Chipbreaker screws are CNC machined from 303 stainless steel at the correct 5/16”-18 thread pitch. The screw-head is chamfered and double-knurled for a secure grip and easy tightening. The screw shank is extra-long and will fit modern thick irons as well as vintage thin ones. The slot is 1/16” wide and square-bottomed to fit large flat-head drivers without slipping. (Of course, it also works beautifully with the Handtool Hero).

I’ve personally tested this screw with Type 6, Type 11, Type 14 (Sweetheart), Type 15 (Sweetheart) and Type 19 Stanley planes. It also fit planes made by Sargent, Union, Victor, and Millers Falls.
