Ready-Set Planing Stop
The toothed planing stop is the quickest way to prepare stock in a hand-tool shop. Faster and easier than a tail vise, the stop holds your work at a single point and leaves it free to be flipped or rotated. Most planing stops are driven into a post and mortised into the workbench; a big modification to your bench.
Our planing stop attaches directly to the benchtop with three screws (included). In less than a minute, it transforms any flat surface into a workbench. The Compass Rose planing stop comes “ready-set” with the teeth 3/8” (9.5mm) above the bench-top. Our stop will handle 1” (25mm), ¾” (19mm) and ½” (13mm) stock while keeping the teeth safely below your tools. (To plane thinner stock, just put a scrap under the wood.)
The Compass Rose Planing Stop comes with our exclusive “safe-stop” cover. The safe-stop slides over the teeth and protects your hands and tools when the stop is not in use. You can also plane directly against this cover any time you don’t want tooth-marks in your work. The cover is durable enough for hard use and it has a textured surface that will grip your work. We’ve also included a loop at one end of the stop so you can tie it to your bench with a piece of string.
Our planing stop is laser-cut and precision-bent from 304 stainless steel. The teeth are cut at 60° and can be sharpened with a standard triangular file. The safe-stop cover is made from durable nylon so it’s both tough and flexible, and it’s black so you won’t throw it away by accident. The included screws are also stainless.
